Introduction to UX Research – Assignment 1

In this assignment, you will investigate the world around you to identify two good and two bad UX designs (4 designs total). These designs can be tangible (e.g., a pair of rain boots), or digital (e.g., a website).

For each design you find, include a picture of the design and write 2-3 sentences on why you think the design will lead to good or bad user experience. Be as concrete as possible.

Good Writing: When it rains, I want my feet and socks to stay dry. This pair of rain boots are open-toed, so it will not protect my feet nor my socks from water.

Bad Writing: This pair of rain boots is not effective when it rains.

Uncomfortable Rain Boots

Submit the pictures and write-ups in one Microsoft Word document (PDF okay too) by end of the day on Feb 4.

Creativity and ambition count – please don’t recreate something similar to what we showed in class with minimal changes.

Reminder on Late Policy: Students may collaborate and consult outside sources when doing assignments. Assignments will be accepted up to 48 hours after the due time, with a 10% penalty if turned in within the first 24 hours and an additional 10% penalty if turned in within the second 24 hours. It will not be accepted later without instructor permission.
